It has to certify that all food products are safe for consumption and that there is adequate supply for the demand. It works in close proximity to all sectors under its wings including perishable products, agricultural research, biological products, fisheries, environmental affairs, water affairs and more.

Candidates interested in applying for a learnership with this Department once they open will be required to meet all the stipulations as set by the Department. Only those candidates who make it to the shortlist will be contacted. Candidates who have not been contacted within three months of the closing date can assume that their application was unsuccessful.
